Beat the chef, the robot can make 300 pizzas per hour
A pizza maker robot that can make and bake 300 pizzas per hour with minimal human assistance was unveiled at the Consumer Electronics Show 2020.
At the Consumer Electronics Show 2020, an American startup named Picnic (based in Seattle) introduced a rapid automated pizza making system with minimal human interaction.
This system consists of 3 compact modular boards assembled to form a conveyor belt, capable of pumping ketchup, spreading cheese and placing sausages. Then, the robotic arm will bring the newly formed cake into the oven.
The pizza is made with little or no human help. At full capacity, the robot can make 300 12-inch-diameter pizzas per hour.
According to CEO Clayton Wood, the robot's pizza production speed will quickly beat the traditional pizzeria, which can only produce about 250 pieces per day.
In terms of quality, Picnic wanted CES attendees to know exactly what pizza was made by a robot, so he made a "conference style" pizza, typical of what's typically served at CES.
According to the founder, the pizza making robot is customizable and can change the output depending on the needs of the customer. That means pizza restaurants will be able to easily use robots to serve customers with different styles.
This robotic system can help solve labor problems in the restaurant industry.
"In the foodservice industry, there is a huge shortage of workers. You can't grow a restaurant when there are not enough workers or only new workers. In pizza production, training is required to get the job done. get the right formula and the right proportions," says Wood.
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the demand for chefs will grow by 6% over the next 10 years, which means restaurants will need more than 1 million chefs.
Picnic's CEO said the company made pizzas with the product at Las Vegas' T-Mobile park and also recently partnered with a local restaurant in Seattle.
